45th Anniversary of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom
"Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy." Disney's Magic Kingdom is a place where grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize, you can fly to Neverland, Cinderella and her friends invite you to dine in her castle, and magic awaits you around every corner.
October 1st, 1971 was the opening of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom has something for everyone to enjoy. Main Street U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventurland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, the gone but not forgotten Mickey's Toontown Faire, and the most recent addition of New Fantasyland are all found in the Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney envisioned a place for the whole family to explore and enjoy together.
Having passed before seeing the opening of Disney World, Walt's brother Roy renamed the park as Walt Disney World in order to pay homage to his brother. "Walt Disney World is a tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney... and to the talents, the dedication, and the loyalty of the entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney's dream come true. May Walt Disney World bring Joy and Inspiration and New Knowledge to all who come to this happy place ... a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn — together."
Guests young and the young at heart enjoy Magic Kingdom to this day. Chicago Photographer Katherine Salvatori shares with us the beauty that the Magic Kingdom shares with all it's guests.
Katherine is a well known and award winning wedding photographer from Chicago, IL who has a love and passion for Disney. I have always enjoyed her photos and reached out to her once she shared a few of her latest photos of Walt Disney World.
She was kind enough to share dozens of her pictures with me and now with you. They capture the magic of the parks today and show exactly why even 45 years later the Magic Kingdom lets you leave the world at it's gates and enter a world of joy, magic and imagination.
Main Street Confectionary is one of the most visited shops on Main Street U.S.A. Main Street U.S.A. is inspired by early 20th century America and is the opening credits to the story of the Magic Kingdom. The Dapper Dans is the official barbershop quartet of Main Street U.S.A. They sing and perform along Main Street entertaining guests year round.
Walt loved the "color, romance, and drama of frontier America." Frontierland is home of Country Bear Jamboree, Tom Sawyer's Island, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, or more commonly known by Disney lovers as "the wildest ride in the wilderness!"
The original It's a Small World dark ride attraction from the 1964 World's Fair is at home at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom is home to a replica of the popular dark ride attraction. Mary Blair created the whimsical and imaginative design of the sets, characters, and costumes that adorne the attraction.
The newest addtition to the Magic Kingdom is New Fantasyland which opened December of 2012. The expansion adds to the original Fantasyland and is home to princesses such as Belle, Ariel, and Snow White.
New Fantasyland brings guests in the middle of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. Guests can choose to dine at Gaston's Tavern or in the Beast's Castle at Be Our Guest.
New Fantasyland leads to Storybook Circus which is the home to Barnstormer and the classic Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
Walt said "as long as there is imagination in the world Disneyland will never be complete." The same goes for Walt Disney World. Magic Kingdom is home to many attractions original and new. Guests create memories and want to share them for years to come. We are able to return and make new memories each and every time because it is ever changing. Thank you Magic Kingdom for 45 years of being the "most magical place on Earth." I can't wait to see what is in store.
Special thanks to Katherine Salvatori for sharing her magical photos. If you would like to know more about Katherine and explore more of her photos click here.
